Recently, I wrote to our Socorro expert, Lazlo:
dear mister studeeo nibble,
i have been to socorro a number of times.
i always found it strangely alluring.
please tell me: why should this have been?
Lazlo responded:
Faithful reader:
Socorro indeed has a strange allure. The fall air is crisp and fresh, the winters hide the mountain's "M" beneath a gentle dusting of snow. To the west, men of Science seek the origins of the Universe. Traffic lights are few and oddly-pierced nerd-girrlz prowl the Tech campus. Life has a rural pace -- the call of the outdoors is stronger than the call of the Internet. Warm summer evenings are well-accompanied by tater tots and a large Ocean Water from Sonic. There are cicadas. You can go for days without seeing a phony.
Yes. I think that must be it.
