After about an hour's drive, we arrived at Ehukai Beach Park, and the gate to Pipe Masters '98. As the final contest of the year on the World Championship Tour (WCT), contenders are anxious to secure their year-end rankings. Of course, the $120,000 purse doesn't hurt. Cancelled! Unfortunatelly, it's a bit tricky to catch a surfing event when you're traveling for the weekend. Contests only take place when the surf meets official approval and can run over the course of a few weeks. To appease the maestro, we decide to try again the following day. |
