| Some of us were sitting outside a bagel shop eating breakfast & talking. Appropos of what, I don't recall, but I announced, "I am completely confused." A passing oldster retorted, "Ask Doctor Ruth!" We laughed so hard that he came back & said, "Being that I'm a bum & all, I figure that's gotta be worth a quarter." I told him it was worth at least a dollar, & handed over one. The guy tried to do another couple minutes' worth of standup, but finally went & joined his friend. "Watch," I said, "his friend'll come over & try out his material, too." Which he did. But he had a tough act to follow. |
