Wagner continues to raise hell and attacks a staff member during a routine check up. He is put in full four-point restraints. Sure, he may have pissed himself in the process, but he got a few good swings in at the staff. |
Wagner is humiliated, sleeping for an hour in his own mess and enduring the mocking stares of the other clients who peek in on the "hell-raiser." It is at this point that Wagner realizes he has sunk as low as human dignity can go (besides voting Democrat). Recalling the indicting last lines of Rilke's "Torso of Apollo," Wagner knows he must change his life. He becomes religious, complies with his medication schedule and surrenders himself to the power of court-ordered out-patient treatment. |
