German Computer Art Car Poetry

Alta Vista's translator isn't all that hot at translating. But that doesn't make it a failure. Contradiction? That depends. Do you care whether, say, William Butler Yeats could translate? Non-sequitur? Au contraire, Pierre! (Just trying to get you in the mood for poetry, there.) Not that Alta Vista's in the same class with the author of "The Second Coming," but it definitely has a gift for poetry. People's Exhibit #666: An article about art cars from the German weekly Stern, transmuted into pure golden poetry via the alchemy of the Alta Vista translation service. In places, it reads almost like "Mad Libs" -- what could be more poetic than that?

Da war es nur noch eine Frage der Zeit, bis Blank 1997 in San Francisco das erste Art-Car-Fest an der Westküste organisierte. Joints werden herumgereicht, es gibt Bier und gegrillte Rippchen, die Kleidung ist auf Schockwert ausgelegt. Ist es wirklich Kunst? Die meisten scheren sich darum wenig. Der Mann mit dem Grasauto trägt einen Anzug, der mit Hunderten von Gabeln behängt ist. Wenn der stille Gene Pool dann die Gabeln im Shake & Rattle-Rhÿthmus schwingen läßt dann ist das Kunst. Oder etwas sehr ähnliches.	Is it real art? Most shear themselves therefore little.
