So remember how I let Wagner take my wish, & I made one, anyway? That Whip It! would get through this trip & back to Tempe without breaking down? Well, I don't know what Wagner wished or whether his wish came true, but my wish both did & didn't. Do you remember that episode of Gilligan's Island where Gilligan gets three wishes & uses the last one to wish they could "get off the island," & then a piece of the island breaks off & moves them into the lagoon? What do you mean, no? Well, anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I should've been more specific with my wish. For no sooner did I take the highway offramp into Tempe than Whip It! broke down. I should've said, "back to my street" or something. It turns out that good wishing is like good writing: you've got to be specific. The EndP.S. Whip It! turned out to be all right. Needles was making one last attempt: Dennis & Dean didn't tighten the new distributor sufficiently, so it had worked loose and retarded the spark. |
